AWAKEN {Bodhi in sankrit} your body and central nervous system with this high energy, innovative fitness method utilizing rhythm and the best elements of Pilates, Dance, Yoga, and Martial Arts to deliver an intense, comprehensive workout.
Jason created BODHI BY DESIGN to help stimulate his students into taking a more active role in their fitness by teaching them how to move more mindfully but with vigor. In his 20 years of observing the fitness industry he found people's tendency to disengage in their workouts problematic and often injurious. When an activity became boring or routine they began to "check out' which led to an ineffective and dangerous workout. He also noted those on the opposite spectrum, who tended to over think their actions, similarly slowed their progress. Movement and exercise should be balanced, mindful, and fun!
Jason has been a force within the fitness industry for the past decade with a diverse background in both movement and sports medicine. His classes and methodical training style have been sought after by professional athletes, models, and celebrities but are especially curated for ALL body types, professions, and fitness levels. His work provides an innovative, well rounded workout that is both entertaining and effective.
His studies began at Oberlin and Julliard, some of the top music conservatories in country, from which he contributes his rhythmic sensitivity and much sought after playlists from class. “Music plays a key role in all my work as it serves not only as a prominent motivator, but also an effective tool for providing structure and cadence to each set of exercises.”
He then studied premed at Columbia while researching neurological disorders at the Mount Sinai school of Medicine. Since then he always approaches each workout sequence with not only the physiological benefits in mind, but the neurological ones as well. “The brain has incredible potential but also great complexity and vulnerability. The RIGHT type of exercise is PARAMOUNT in living a long, healthy life.” Cardiovascular exercise along with challenging, complex movement patterns, a defining feature of Jason's classes, have been shown to not only help keep the brain working at optimal levels but also serve as a strong defense against Alzheimer’s, depression, ADHD, and other neurological disorders.
His fitness career first took off under fitness entrepreneur Tracy Anderson and her business partner, Gwyneth Paltrow. As one of her master trainers he helped create content and prescribe programs for her private clients and studio base until 2012. He holds certifications from the National Association of Sports Medicine, Yoga Alliance, and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He's also a trained Stretch Therapist for STRETCH*D and works privately both in home and in studios in downtown Manhattan. He acts as an ambassador, teacher trainer, and consultant for several boutique studios in the NYC area, holding classes and workshops for other fitness instructors and students, as well as international retreats for all levels.
